Christmas Concert Saturday 14 December 2024
A jolly concert took place in the Chapel with singing of Carols, music, memories of childhood Christmasses narrated by Steve Brenchley, a skit performed by Margaret Wilmot and John Callaghan ably assisted by the narrator Steve. John sang solo and unaccompanied Gaudete in Latin, which was appropriate on the eve of Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday, the third Sunday in Advent. Eric Johnstone played the organ and piano. Just under 70 people attended with refreshments of drinks, biscuits and mince pies served in the interval.

A few mishaps in the Chapel ....... The crib figures were damaged this year, when someone 'kindly' put them away in January with not much care! They have been used for many many years without a mishap, and were retouched and cleaned by a member of St Theresa's when the Chapel was closed for the building of the Museum. A shepherd and his sheep were decapitated, the donkey lost an ear and poor St Joseph's hand was crushed!
However they have all received healing.
In the meantime following instructions to light the decorative Christmas 'candles' for visitors, someone tried to light a battery operated plastic 'T' light, melting it completely and its plastic 'glass' looking flame. They didn't try just ONE, they tried to light FOUR ! They really do walk among us !! Needless to say , Margaret, our verger, bought some more and the decorative 'candles' work really well when the battery is switched on!! Definitely a Noddy's guide is needed , Margaret!

There is a very attractive display, by the Friends of the Chapel, of toys, books and games of the 40s and 50s. Some visitors recently recognised the unusual card game ( bottom right) and played it in the Chapel to the amusement of the volunteer on duty.
