Battle of Britain Forget-me-not Service 19 July 2024

Picture

It  was a beautiful sunny day as the Forget-Me-Not service took place near the Gate Guardians led by  the Chapel Chaplain Reverend Alison Newman.

The names of the 105 Airmen who died flying from the Biggin Hill Sector, during the Battle for Britain, were read out by seven ladies.  They were from The Friends, Chapel Congregation, Craft Club, Museum staff and volunteers.  After each had read 15 names, a wreath of blue Forget-me-nots was laid near the Spitfire.

Air Cdre John Bell announced Sir Winston Churchill's words and Reverend (Major) Andrew White played the Last Post and Reveille on a precious WWl bugle.  St George's Flag was paraded by Mrs Sandra Carpenter.
The service culminated in the tolling of the Chapel bell, 105 times.
