Dedication of the St George’s Flag, Sunday 14 April 2024
Reverend Alison Newman dedicated our St George's flag saying these words : - .
In the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, we dedicate this Flag to the glory of God, and as a symbol of our loyalty in fellowship and service and may it never be unfurled save in the cause of justice, righteousness, and truth. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Receive this Flag now dedicated to the Glory of God; and let it be your care to carry it with honour, to the good name of this Chapel, and to the praise of God. Amen.
Let us pray
Almighty God the protector of all who put their trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy; bless this Flag which we have solemnly dedicated to your glory; and show your gracious favour to those who serve beneath it, that nothing they do may bring dishonour to this symbol of their trust and service. May they show self-control in the hour of success, patience in the time of adversity, and may their honour lie in seeking the honour and glory of your great Name. Keep these your servants true and loyal to King and Country, and ever faithful to you, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords; that having fought the good fight here, as soldiers of the cross, they may hereafter win the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you,
Father, and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen
Friends of St George's Chapel Sunday Service
Our Annual Friends Service was held on Sunday 21st April 2024 with the Deputy Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Keith Onslow present.
Ann-Marie Jefferys led the service and gave an excellent sermon encompassing many aspects of life and our patron saint, Saint George. David Jefferys, her husband, was the crucifer. Both are Licensed Lay Ministers and lead Sunday Services in the Chapel.
Eric Johnstone was our organist and pianist and the soloist was Ester Beresford-Muravyeva, She gave a powerful rendering of 'There'll always be an England' and led the congregation singing 'Land of Hope and Glory'.
About 50 people attended the service, including cadets from Biggin Hill ATC Squadron. St George's flag was paraded together with the Squadron banner by Mr Neil Athron and Cadet Corporal Nathan Wood, who executed their task smartly, precisely and perfectly.
