In June 2024, John and Saskia Mantle visited the Garden of Remembrance to lay flowers on his parents' burial place in the Remembrance Garden. They saw the new Pergola which they and their two daughters had given in memory of Reverend Eric Mantle and his wife Marinette.
Reverend (Group Captain) Mantle served for many years in the RAF and in retirement was the CSSFC Chaplain at the Chapel. Eric and Marinette are survived by three children and several grandchildren.
Shoots of the wisteria have been encouraged to grow and new wiseria plants will be put in soon.
A rather Special Visitor on 14th June 2023
Jan Leeming came to the Chapel! She was delivering her research notes on the story of Free French pilot Rene Mouchotte; a few years ago she came into the Chapel to look at Rene's name on the Reredos and in the Remembrance Book. She remembered sitting in St. George's Room, when it was still part of the Chapel, seeing the Elva Blacker picture with the unknown portraits, the piano and all the memorabilia.
She was delighted to hear that Owen Leeming's poem that he wrote about Biggin Hill and the Chapel, will be used later in the year in a special display. The photos below show Jan retracing her earlier visit, standing in front of the reredos board with Rene's name, and looking at his name in the Remembrance Book. The last photo is Jan sharing the notes she has brought with Katie, the director of the museum and Margaret Wilmot. Jan intends to return to the Chapel for the Special Commemorative Service on 19th September. (taken from Facebook page)

The Detonators |
On 15th January 23 a group of 13, called The Detonators spent an hour in the Chapel and were given a talk about St George's. The Detonators originated in California in 1949 and the group was re-established in Greenwich, South East London. They drive American Hot Rods and Custom cars, and enjoyed visit to the cafe and bought nearly all the craft items in the Museum.
On the following Saturday, 21st January, the Catford Womens' Institute and a dog came to a group talk given by Margaret Wilmot in the Chapel. The ladies also virtually cleared the newly stocked craft bay in the Museum shop and visited the Museum cafe.
